Embedded Software Engineer (Elektron Technology)


Reporting to:     Engineering Team Leader

Location:            Cambridge



The Embedded Software Engineer (Elektron Technology) is required to work as part of the Product Development Team, with specific responsibility for supporting and developing embedded firmware for Elektron Technology brands. Elektron Eye Technology produces medical devices, while CheckIt devices are used in multiple sectors. As such the applicant must be able to follow appropriate development processes. Previous experience of developing firmware for medical, automotive, or industry applications will be advantageous.



  • Consistent production of quality work for projects according to budgets, quality standards, specifications, time-scales
  • Analyse problems / undertake research and contribute to design solutions within a project
  • Present work to Project Manager / Project Team
  • Meet quality standards, time-scales and specifications



  • High level of experience developing embedded real-time firmware in C
  • Experience with low level microcontroller interfacing
  • Ability to follow circuit diagrams in order to control sensors, motors and actuators etc
  • Ability to use signal generators, oscilloscopes, etc to test correct behaviour of firmware and electronics
  • Familiar with source control systems, e.g. GIT
  • Familiar with change control procedures and bug tracking systems, e.g. Bugzilla
  • Familiar with following quality procedures for software development
  • Awareness of formal testing to requirements



  • Effective organisation and planning skills
  • Will show good communication skills with management, team members and suppliers
  • Clear and effective presentation / technical writing skills
  • Competence in technical documentation (e.g. Will have written a design / requirement spec, acceptance test spec, etc)



  • Commercial awareness of market areas relevant to technical area
  • Up to date knowledge of latest developments within field
  • Knowledge of TI Tiva-C and / or ARM Cortex M4 processor family is advantageous
  • Previous experience with Zigbee implementation – Silicon Labs (Ember) Znet stack also advantageous.
